About the Luthier

Since 1994, Giancarlo Nannoni has devoted himself with unwavering passion to guitar making, combining the technical knowledge from his studies with his love of music. In his youth, he played guitar and other instruments as an amateur, exploring a variety of musical genres.

During his violin studies, he met the violin maker Contavalli in Imola and was fascinated by the materials, tools, and scents that filled the small workshop. Looking back, Nannoni describes these encounters as the moment in which the desire to build instruments himself was born.

He later approached guitar making as an autodidact, immersing himself in the physics and acoustics of classical guitar construction, visiting museums and collections, and studying the instruments of great masters from past eras over many years. This research-driven approach became the foundation of his own building philosophy.

In the early years of his career, Nannoni was invited to significant exhibitions in numerous Italian cities, where he also gave lectures on guitar making at public and private institutions. His knowledge expanded continuously through exchanges with musicians whose advice and inspiration shaped his path.

Today, his guitars are played in Italy and abroad by university professors and young concert guitarists, including prizewinners of major international competitions.
