Daniel Friederich - 1971 No. 317
Overview
Overview
Daniel Friederich was born on the sixteenth of January 1932 and regrettably passed away in 2020. Although he had a strong desire to play the guitar, he lacked money. But at the age of 23, Friederich solved this dilemma by building his first guitar himself: a copy of a Simplicio guitar. Daniel’s guitar teacher and excellent guitar maker, Christian Aubin, was a great help to him. After building tools and gaining some experience in guitar making, Daniel Friederich showed his fifteenth guitar to Robert Bouchet. Since then, Robert Bouchet has inspired his work, and Daniel Friederich has personally developed some of R. Bouchet’s ideas throughout his career.
For decades, Daniel Friederich was one of the world’s most important and respected active luthiers. After a long and successful career, he stopped making guitars in 2015 and sold all his tools. Today, he is undoubtedly one of history’s most respected and admired guitar makers.
The “Concert Model” No. 317, crafted in 1971 by the renowned luthier Daniel Friederich, stands as a masterpiece in the world of classical guitars. It is renowned for its ability to captivate the hearts of guitar enthusiasts and musicians alike. This guitar features a spruce soundboard, revered for its bright and clear sound, reinforced with seven fan bracings, a traditional construction technique that enhances the guitar's resonance and tonal stability. The result is a guitar that produces a sound as rich and deep as it is vibrant. The treble tones are particularly noteworthy, offering pristine clarity and an impressive richness in overtones, reminiscent of a bell's resonant chime. This is complemented by a sustain that adds to the guitar's enchanting sonic appeal. The basses, warm and potent, provide a perfect counterbalance, ensuring that the sound profile remains harmoniously well-rounded without any overpowering elements.
The guitar's back is masterfully crafted from Indian rosewood, a choice that not only contributes to its stunning aesthetics but also to its rich tonal qualities. The sides of the guitar are doubled with another layer of rosewood, adding to its robust sound projection and resonance. The condition of this 1971 Daniel Friederich guitar is outstanding, maintaining its original integrity with no cracks or repaired cracks, with the exception of some finishing retouch on the rosette part, which does not detract from its overall beauty. This guitar is a piece of history, embodying the pinnacle of Friederich's craftsmanship. This guitar is a treasure for any musician or collector, offering a glimpse into the legacy of one of the greatest guitar makers of our time.
