Darragh O'Connell - 2022 "Torres SE 69"

Darragh O'Connell - 2022 "Torres SE 69"

Overview

Darragh O'Connell was born in Switzerland in 1984. He grew up in a small village in the Alps surrounded by spruce forests, where he had a great interest in nature and woodworking from an early age. At 17, after a trip to Latin America, Darragh developed a great interest in the classical guitar through contact with guitarists. He then began his journey with a solid four-year training in cabinet making. In 2015 he enrolled in the musical instrument-making school, the CMB, located in a small village in Flanders, Belgium, where he trained under highly respectable luthiers such as Walter Verreydt and Karel Dedain. All this led him to win the first prize in the 2019 Antonio Marin Montero Guitar Making Competition in Granada. He finally opened his workshop in 2020 in Belgium, where he is working and perfecting his crafts until today.

This brand-new guitar is a replica of the 1884 Antonio de Torres SE69 guitar. This fantastic instrument was built through a great understanding of the original guitar. The spruce soundboard is tastefully decorated according to the original. Meanwhile, the dark, striking Indian Rosewood back and sides were carefully chosen to match the overall look of this fine guitar. Due to its F main resonance and lightweight design, this replica is a powerful instrument with deep and rich voices. Furthermore, this guitar will satisfy any concert guitarist that prefers to perform on a traditionally built guitar.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
