About the luthier
Italian luthier Ennio Giovanetti studied violin making in Milan, but eventually turned his focus to building classical concert guitars after discovering the unique expressive and tonal depth that the instrument offers. He began exploring the works of Antonio de Torres, Hermann Hauser, Enrique Garcia, and Francisco Simplicio, while also applying the craftsmanship ideals of historic violin making to his guitars. He studied under Enrico Bottelli and had the opportunity to examine many important historical guitars during his formative years.
Ennio has been building guitars professionally since 1998 in his workshop in Sariano di Gropparello, Italy. His guitars are built following traditional Spanish methods but are marked by clearly personal stylistic and structural choices that make them immediately recognizable. His work is deeply rooted in the past while incorporating insights gained through decades of experience and experimentation.
About the guitar
This exceptional instrument, part of the REG 2025 Limited Edition, is dedicated to Antonio Scandurra (1935–2024), a master luthier and teacher who greatly influenced Ennio Giovanetti’s path. Built in honor of this legacy, the guitar represents a synthesis of Ennio’s decades of study, experimentation, and respect for tradition.
Despite its traditional voicing, the guitar incorporates several innovations aimed at enhancing volume and tonal response. The soundboard is made from carefully aged spruce and built over a fully spherical template, resulting in a domed top not only in one but in all directions. This curvature allows the top to be extremely thin while retaining structural integrity. As a result, the internal bracing consists of only four fan braces and a small bridge plate, a minimalist structure made possible by the doming. To compensate for this geometry, the guitar features an elevated fingerboard that aligns the neck to the raised top surface.
The back and sides are made from satinwood, a personal favorite of Ennio’s, prized for its low weight, high stiffness, and rich tonal complexity. The neck is made of cherry, which is denser than traditional cedar but contributes to a powerful attack and enhanced sustain. The guitar’s appearance reflects the care invested in every choice of material, from the subtle dark lines of the old spruce top to the golden shimmer of the satinwood body.
This is a deeply expressive instrument with a strong voice, responsive character, and refined aesthetic, a fitting tribute to one of Ennio’s greatest influences and an embodiment of his personal philosophy as a luthier.
