About the luthier
Italian luthier Ennio Giovanetti studied violin making in Milan before turning his attention to the classical concert guitar, drawn by the instrument’s expressive range and tonal depth. His formation led him to explore the work of Antonio de Torres, Hermann Hauser, Enrique Garcia, and Francisco Simplicio, while bringing to guitar making the precision and material awareness associated with historical violin construction. He studied with Enrico Bottelli and, during his formative years, had the opportunity to examine important historical guitars closely.
Giovanetti has been building guitars professionally since 1998 in his workshop in Sariano di Gropparello, Italy. His instruments follow traditional Spanish methods, yet they are marked by personal structural and stylistic choices developed through decades of study, experimentation, and close attention to sound. His work remains rooted in historical models while seeking a contemporary concert voice with clarity, strength, and an individual aesthetic identity.
About the guitar
This 2026 Tonino REG Limited Edition is a traditionally voiced classical guitar made for the Roma Expo Guitar Limited Edition project. The Tonino model is dedicated to Antonio Scandurra, the luthier and teacher whose influence played an important role in Giovanetti’s path. Rather than presenting the dedication only as a commemorative gesture, the model reflects a deeper continuity between teacher, craft, and personal research. It brings together Giovanetti’s respect for the Spanish guitar tradition with constructional solutions developed through his own long experience as a maker.
Built with a spruce top and ziricote back and sides, this instrument is conceived to preserve a classical tonal foundation while increasing response, projection, and musical flexibility. The soundboard is built over a fully spherical template, creating a domed top across the entire surface rather than in a single direction. This curvature allows the top to remain very thin while still retaining the stability needed for a concert instrument. Because of this geometry, the internal structure can be reduced to a minimalist system of only four fan braces and a small bridge plate, allowing the soundboard to work with unusual freedom while remaining controlled.
The elevated fingerboard is an integral part of this design. It provides a modern playing profile, but it also responds to the raised geometry of the soundboard, aligning the neck with the domed top. The result is a construction in which each element is connected to the next, from the shape of the top to the reduced bracing and the relationship between neck, fingerboard, and body.
The voice is powerful, full, and responsive, with a clear sense of traditional colour beneath its modern concert presence. The guitar offers considerable headroom, allowing the sound to grow without losing tonal quality, and its dynamic range gives the player space to move from controlled softer playing to a broader, more projected sound. The ziricote contributes depth and density to the body resonance, while the spruce top preserves clarity, attack, and definition. In this Tonino REG Limited Edition, Giovanetti brings together historical awareness, structural economy, and a strong personal concept in a guitar of projection, balance, and refined character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Classical Guitars
How do I choose the right classical guitar for my level?
Choosing the right classical guitar depends on your playing level, musical goals, and budget. Beginners benefit from studio-model guitars from renowned workshops, while advanced players and professionals often choose a handmade master guitar. We are happy to advise you personally and can send detailed sound samples and videos on request.
What is the difference between a master guitar and a studio guitar?
Master guitars are built entirely by hand in the workshop of a single luthier, using only high-quality, well-aged tonewoods. Studio guitars are made in small series, often under the supervision of the master luthier, and offer excellent value for students and ambitious amateur players.
