Overview
Felix Manzanero was born in 1937 in Madrid. At first he learned the general principles of guitar-making from Modesto Borreguero (1893-1969) who himself learned the art of lutherie from Manuel Ramirez I (1964-1916). When he was 14 years old, Manzanero started to work for Ramirez under José Ramirez II (1885-1957) and together with Alfonso Benito and José Ramirez III. In the workshop, he was responsible for the varnishing. Manzanero constructed his first guitar from unused wood residues what impressed Ramirez II a lot. From then onwards, Ramirez II allowed Manzanero to construct guitars. After 12 years under the supervision of Ramirez, Manzanero began to work in his own workshop. Today, Manzanero belongs to the most important and best known luthiers of the Madrid School. His classical guitars have won important prizes, like for example in 1989 at the “Concurso Internacional de Maestros Guitarreros” in Tarbes, France.
