Overview
Hermann Hauser ® I as a German luthier, holds a leading position among luthiers worldwide. He took over the instrument workshop of his father while Josef Hauser ® was still managing the music publishing house. Hermann Hauser ® I specialised in making lutes and guitars but also remained true to the construction of zithers. In the context of the Guitaristic Movement in Bavaria, Hermann Hauser ® I built a large number of different guitars; in particular the Vienna models and the Munich models in all kinds of forms, but all in absolute perfection. The Terz, Prim and the very rare Quintbass guitars of Hermann Hauser ® I are of highest quality. Even today, the sound of those instruments is still unsurpassed. Based on his special virtuosity, Hermann Hauser ® I developed technical, patented innovations in the area of construction of the guitar’s tops and body-neck connections. The Spanish virtuosi Miguel Llobet and Andres Segovia became attentive to Hermann Hauser ® I’s art of making guitars at the beginning of the 20th century.
Hermann Hauser ® I's Viennese guitars are known to be comfortable easy-to-play instruments. They are having a powerful sound and a long-lasting resonance. This Hermann Hauser ® I tierce guitar was built in 1922. Due to its versatility and flexibility, this it can be played in solo as well as part of chamber ensembles. The two-piece top is made of spruce and is framed by dark and light purflings, similarly to the sound hole. The one-piece back as well as the sides are made of flamed maple. The head is V-joined to the neck and the neck is screwed to the body in the Stauffer/Viennese way, so that its angle and the strings' action can easily be adjusted. Some repairs and restoration works have been managed all along the instrument's long life. Nevertheless, the guitar is in perfect playing condition and requires no additional restoration. To sum up, this lovely tierce guitar has great sound qualities, as well as a very appealing appearance and a rich history. The original tuning machines were made by Landstorfer Reischl and are still on the guitar, in good working condition.
