Overview
The Hermann Hauser® dynasty is one of the oldest guitar-making families in the world, spanning over five generations and dating back to the second half of the XIX century. Josef Hauser® (1854-1939) was a zither maker and virtuoso who passed on his enthusiasm for instrument making to his son, the famous Hermann Hauser® I (1882-1952).
The son of Hermann Hauser® I (1882-1952), Hermann Hauser® II (1911-1988) worked in his father’s workshop from 1930. In 1952 he took over the management of the workshop and led the company until 1983, establishing himself as one of the most important guitar makers of the 2oth century. His instruments have a tonality all of their own, which has captivated a whole generation of guitarists with its agility, balance and complexity. Important guitarists such as Julian Bream (1933-2020) played Hermann Hauser® II guitars.
This outstanding instrument is a great example of the work of Hermann Hauser II, considered one of the most important luthiers of the twentieth century. It has a very clear and bell-like fundamental sound with exceptionally good separation. Moreover, this guitar is characterized by its particularly lyrical, warm, and charming trebles combined with deep and focused basses. The honey-colored spruce top and back and sides made of the finest Indian rosewood complete the elegance of this guitar's appearance.
This 1954 model was owned by a Greek professional guitarist and professor, Charalambos Ekmetzoglou. It has only a small professionally repaired crack on the fingerboard. The spruce top shows only some playing wear and is completely free of cracks and repairs, as are its back and sides. The width of the neck was adapted to the needs of Charalambos Ekmetzoglou, so that the nut width is now 49 mm. In the course of this work, the fingerboard was also renewed and newly fretted. The varnish was freshened up. This is a remarkable guitar in very good condition from 1954, two years after Hermann Hauser II took over his father's workshop, and is a great and rare opportunity to acquire a guitar that is both historically and tonally interesting and exceptional.
