Hernandez y Aguado - 1961

Hernandez y Aguado - 1961

Overview

Santiago Diaz Martinez, better known as Manuel Hernandez was born in Valmojado, near Toledo in 1895. Victoriano Aguado Rodriguez came into the world in Madrid in 1897. They got to know each other while working together in a piano factory and became friends. After the factory closed down they founded their own company that initially concentrated on the restauration of furniture and pianos. Rather initially they discovered their talent for guitar making when between 1945 and 1948 the passionate amateur guitar player Victoriano Aguado Rodriguez built two guitars for personal fun. Fate brought the two instruments to Regino Sainz de la Maza – at this time professor for guitar at the Real Conservatorio in Madrid – who acknowledged the two friends’ talent and encouraged them to build more guitars. In 1948 Manuel Hernandez und Victoriano Aguado Rodriguez were joint by Modesto Borreguero, who had worked in the workshop of the famous luthier Manuel Ramirez and they started to concentrate increasingly on the making of guitars – with huge success. Soon they sold their guitars all over the world, even to the Thai Queen Sirikit. Famous artists, such as John Williams, Julian Bream and Atahualpa Yupanqui played „HyA“ guitars.
We are extraordinarily happy to present a guitar by the great masters at first hand. Furthermore, we are in possession of the splendidly preserved hand-written documentation about the occurrence of the purchase. Antonio Membrado, a famous guitar virtuoso and teacher of the former owner had studied with Prof. Regino Sainz de La Maza, the supporter of Hernandez and Aguado. In Spain, he searched for a suitable instrument for his student and ordered this guitar from Hernandez y Aguado. The instrument has the number 192 and is from 1961. The top is made of spruce while back and sides are made of Indian Rosewood. The guitar has two extremely well repaired cracks below the bridge that were restored perfectly. The finish, even the finish of the fretboard, is original, as well as the Fustero tuners. It is a lovely instrument that has very warm sounding basses and a long lasting and singing treble. This is a true gem and an extremely rare instrument. A Hiscox Pro II case is included.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
