Overview
This superb guitar built by Johannes Schenk in 2003 is a very special instrument. It is a copy of the penultimate guitar numbered 37.0/5 built by Richard Jacob Weißgerber in 1960 at the age of 83. This guitar shows all the details of one of the master's latest masterpieces. The latter is kept at the Markneukirchen Musical Instruments Museum in Germany.
A characteristic feature of this model is the great plantilla and the transverse oval soundhole, which was one of the hallmarks of the late Weißgerber guitars. Both the spruce top and the Indian rosewood back are slightly fluted. Noteworthy are the top and back’s raised edges made of Galalith and ebony. An extremely time-consuming and technically challenging task which was one of Richard Jacob Weißgerber’s specialties.
This guitar has a unique and very distinctive tone of Weißgerber guitars. The sound volume is ample, and the response is very fast. It is in perfect playing condition and shows only a few playing marks on the French polish. Two small cracks under the bridge have been perfectly repaired and are stable. It is a very special and charming instrument that triggers emotion.
