John Ray - 2024 No. 287 Simplicio
Overview
Overview
Native of Canada, John Ray came to Granada in 1989 to immerse himself in the art of guitar making. There, he was fortunate to learn extensively from local luthiers, especially from German guitar builder Rolf Eichinger, who had also emigrated to Granada to dedicate himself to guitar making. Over the years, John went on to restore numerous masterpieces by legendary luthiers such as Miguel Rodriguez, Vicente Arias, Manuel Ramirez, Salvador Ibañez, and others. Today, his guitars are highly regarded among professional musicians around the world.
This beautiful guitar is a meticulously crafted replica of a Simplicio guitar. John's goal was not only to create an instrument that closely resembles the original aesthetically, but also one that adheres to the original dimensions, playability, and tonal qualites. The top of this guitar is made from spruce, while the back and sides are crafted from Indian rosewood. The sound is warmly inviting and mellow, with an exceptionally round and resonant mid-range that captivates the listener. The headstock is intricately carved and complemented by elegant Rodgers tuners, giving the instrument a refined beauty that echoes the work of master luthiers.
