About the luthier
Kevin Aram has been building instruments professionally since 1978 and has made more than 500 instruments over the course of his career, the great majority classical guitars in the Spanish tradition. During his early years, he combined guitar making with restoration and repair, giving him the opportunity to study important instruments by makers including Vicente Arias, Domingo Esteso, Santos Hernández, Manuel Ramírez, Hermann Hauser I and José Luis Romanillos. Since moving to North Devon in 1991, Aram has concentrated on the development of smaller-bodied spruce-top guitars in the Torres and Hauser tradition. His association with Julian Bream is especially notable: Bream acquired two of his guitars in the 1980s, and the 1988 instrument “Myrtle” was used for the recording of Miguel Llobet’s Catalan folk-song arrangements on La Guitarra Romantica.
