Overview
Masaki Sakurai, nephew of the great Japanese luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied electrical engineering at the Sophia University and joined “Kohno Guitar Manufacturing” after graduating in 1967. In 1988 he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai’s guitars are of impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their ease of playing and great volume of sound.
This beautiful guitar has all the aesthetic qualities of Kohno guitars, such as a perfect craftsmanship and a spruce top with a beautiful honey color for example. The shape of the headstock is a combination of the head shape of the guitars of Robert Bouchet and Masaru Kohno. The tuners are made by Gotoh and have the peculiarity of having silver barrels.
The sound of this guitar is simply amazing, well beyond our expectations for this very accessible model. Power and projection are combined with awesome playability. The first string is brilliant and sings elegantly with its extraordinary sustain. It is a guitar with an almost Spanish attack along with deep and precise bass. A very nice surprise and an instrument that is equally recommended to all kinds of guitarists, amateurs and professionals.
