Overview
Masaki Sakurai, nephew of the great Japanese luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied1 electrical engineering at the Sophia University and joined "Kohno Guitar Manufacturing" after graduating in 1967. In 1988 he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai's guitars are of impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their ease of playing and great volume of sound.
The model "Maestro RF" is the most advanced model built by Masaki Sakurai. It is a very beautiful guitar made from the oldest and highest quality precious woods found in the Kohno stock. You can recognize this model by its head decorated with fine marquetry and by its clearly raised fingerboard. This exceptional guitar is as new, with almost no signs of playing. It is built with the seven fan bars and extremely asymmetrical bracing typical of Masaki Sakurai, combined with three very thin crossbars.
This guitar is very responsive and has an excellent volume. Furthermore, the sound is precise and projects clearly. It is a guitar with an optimal balance and a relatively neutral but very malleable tone. This allows the guitarist to express himself freely in all repertoires. It is therefore an instrument rich in timbre, very easy to play and without doubt capable of filling concert halls.
