Overview
Masaki Sakurai, nephew of the great Japanese luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied electrical engineering at the Sophia University and joined “Kohno Guitar Manufacturing” after graduating in 1967. In 1988 he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai’s guitars are of impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their ease of playing and great volume of sound.
This beautiful guitar has all the aesthetic qualities of Kohno guitars, such as perfect craftsmanship and a fine-grained soundboard. The shape of the headstock is a combination of the head shape of the guitars of Robert Bouchet and Masaru Kohno. The tuners are made by Gotoh and have the peculiarity of having silver barrels.
This elegant and classy guitar is a one-to-one replica of the instrument that won Mazaki Sakurai the first prize at the 1988 prestigious Paris International Guitar Luthiers Competition. This model "PC", standing for "Paris Competition", crystallizes Mazaki Sakurai's decades of experience in one guitar. It is characterized by the finest woods, most elaborate bracing pattern, and richest sound.
