Masaki Sakurai - No. 5 1976

Masaki Sakurai - No. 5 1976

Overview

Masaki Sakurai, nephew of the great Japanese luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied at the electronics department of Sophia University and after graduating in 1967 he entered “Kohno Guitar Manufacturing”. In 1988 he won the first prize in the fourth Paris International Guitar Luthiers Competition. This number 5 model was built in 1976 and is one of Sakurai’s early works. The cedar top and the beautiful red-hued Indian Rosewood back and sides give the guitar a warm appealing appearance. The rosewood binding and back strip are embedded between two plain green mosaic stripes forming a nice contrast to the red mosaics in the rosette. The sound is warm but forceful with pearly trebles. The instrument has an excellent response due to many years of intensive playing. There are several little dings and signs of usage. An XS soft case is included.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
