Overview
Masaki Sakurai, the nephew of the great Japanese master luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied electrical engineering at Sophia University and became part of " Kohno Guitar Manufacturing" in 1967, after graduation. In 1988, he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai's guitars are of impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their easy playability and great volume of sound.
The Maestro model is a very beautiful guitar made from the oldest and highest quality precious woods found in the Kohno stock. It is built with seven fan bars and an asymmetrical bracing typical of Masaki Sakurai, combined with three very thin crossbars. This guitar responds very well and has an excellent sound volume. In addition, the tone is precise and projects excellently. It is a superbly balanced instrument with a very malleable tone. Furthermore, the timbres of this Sakurai Kohno Maestro offer the player a wide range of possibilities for shaping and use. It is also very pleasant to play and without a doubt capable of filling concert halls.
