Vincent Engelbrecht – 2024 No. 136

Overview

Vincent Engelbrecht is a distinguished classical guitar maker based in Forcalquier, Provence, France. His journey began in 1997 when he was just 17, apprenticing under the renowned Christopher Schuetz for three years. After his apprenticeship, Vincent expanded his expertise by studying and working as a sound engineer and acoustician for six years. In 2006, he dedicated himself to guitar making, drawing upon his deep understanding of acoustics. Vincent's research culminated in the development of a unique bracing system featuring a star-woven spruce mesh attached to a spruce and balsa top, significantly enhancing the instrument's sound quality. Since 2017, he has been crafting 6 to 8 concert classical guitars annually, each a testament to his innovative approach and meticulous craftsmanship.

Vincent Engelbrecht's craftsmanship shines in this remarkable guitar, distinguished by its innovative bracing system. The unique star-woven spruce mesh, coupled with a spruce and balsa top, creates an instrument that boasts exceptional volume without compromising its colorful tonal palette. This design ensures the top maintains the optimal tension, enhancing overall playability and particularly benefiting right-hand technique. The guitar offers vast dynamic possibilities, making it a true concert instrument versatile enough to meet the demands of any guitarist. Given its exceptional qualities, it's no surprise that esteemed guitarist Cassie Martin chooses to perform with a Vincent Engelbrecht guitar, further testament to its superior performance and design.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
