Walter Verreydt - 2023 "Torres Inspired"

Overview

Walter Verreydt built his first guitars in 1985. He was primarily a woodworking teacher, and his love for music led him to make his first guitar and become a luthier. Since 1988 Walter teaches classical guitar making at the “Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw” in Puurs (Belgium). He studied many guitars of famous luthiers like Ignacio Fleta, Robert Bouchet, Hernandez y Aguado, and many more. His excellent relationships with Daniel Friederich and José Romanillos helped him in the development of his own ideas. His guitars are handmade in the Spanish tradition, and every instrument is the product of his personal growth and ongoing studies. Walter guitars are played by world renowned guitarists, among others: Andrea De Vitis (I), Gaëlle Solal (Fr), Pablo Garibay (Mex), Odair Assad (Braz), Oman Kaminsky (Mex), Pavel Steidl (Ts), Fernando Espi (Sp), Johan Fostier (B), Juan Almada(Ar), Daniela Rossi (Ar), Marc Teicholz (USA).

This guitar, inspired by the legendary Antonio de Torres, stands as a testament to the timeless beauty and exceptional sound quality of early 20th-century Spanish craftsmanship. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, it features elegant straight-grained Rio rosewood, CITES certified for authenticity and sustainability, paired with an extraordinarily resonant spruce top. From the moment the first notes are played, this guitar captivates both the player and the listener, transporting them back to the golden age of guitar music with its enormous response and immediate sound. Its rounded tone, a rarity among contemporary instruments, achieves a perfect balance of warmth and clarity, enriched with an Iberian charm that invites a nostalgic journey through time. The guitar's exceptional projection, purity, and refinement are indicative of a master luthier's skill, offering immense satisfaction and a deeply enriching playing experience.

The creation of this guitar was a labor of love for the luthier, built between scheduled orders during a period of intense inspiration and without the constraints of a client's specifications. It represents not a true replica of a Torres guitar but a personal interpretation, infused with the luthier's own artistic vision and passion for the craft. The use of very old Rio rosewood for the body and satinwood for the inlay adds layers of visual and acoustic complexity, making this instrument not only a pleasure to play but also a stunning work of art to behold. This guitar, the second of its kind produced by the luthier, follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, which is played by the esteemed Mexican guitarist Pablo Garibay, further cementing its status as a remarkable instrument that continues to give great satisfaction to both its creator and those fortunate enough to experience its unparalleled sound

Walter Verreydt – 2023 Classical Guitar Review

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
