Description
Hans van Velzen is a guitar maker from Tilburg in the Netherlands. He is one of the new generations of luthiers trained at the highly respected guitar-making school of Puurs in Belgium under the guidance of Walter Verreydt and Jacky Walraet. Thanks to his great attention to detail, excellent woodworking skills, and superbly sounding guitars, Hans van Velzen won 3rd prize at the 2018 Antonio Marin International Guitar Building Competition in Granada. His sound ideal is significantly influenced by Spanish luthiers of the golden era such as Antonio de Torres, Manuel Ramirez, Enrique Garcia, and Santos Hernandez. As a result, Hans is currently making two signature models: one inspired by a 1917 Enrique Garcia and the other by a 1930 Santos Hernandez/1940 Manuel de la Chica.
This gorgeous 2021 guitar is the Signature model inspired by a 1917 Enrique Garcia, for which Hans chose a stunning Madagascar rosewood set with gorgeous colors and reflections. The light rosette, a typical feature of his instruments, gives the spruce top a pure and graceful appearance, making his guitars instantly recognizable. On top of having a sumptuous sound volume, the guitar number 28 has a smooth and round tone, remarkably elegant in the trebles and sonorous in the basses.
