Tudor Torge – a young Romanian guitarist on the rise

At just 18 years old, Romanian guitarist Tudor Torge has already established himself as one of the most promising young talents in European classical guitar. Born in Cluj-Napoca, he studies at the Sigismund Toduță Music High School under the guidance of Viorela Chiș and Bíró Lajos. His talent, discipline, and artistic maturity have earned him more than 90 prizes in national and international competitions – an impressive achievement for a musician of his age.

Early development and competitions

Tudor began studying guitar at the age of seven, showing an early gift for musical understanding and technical precision. His dedication quickly led him to success on the international stage. Among his most notable awards are the Grand Prize at the Sinaia International Guitar Festival (2024), the Pleven International Guitar Festival (2021), and the Johann Sebastian Bach Festival (2022). He also won the Golden Lira Trophy in 2023 and achieved third prize at the Guitar Foundation of America Competition in 2020 – one of the most significant distinctions in his career so far.

Artistic collaborations and performances

Beyond his success in competitions, Tudor is a passionate chamber musician. He performs regularly with his violinist sister, Mara Torge, and together they have appeared in numerous concerts, including “Il Canto di Paganini” at the Sigismund Toduță Memorial House in Cluj-Napoca. He also collaborates with a wide range of musicians, such as violinist Rareș Șiclovan (as Duo Assai), pianist Theodore Mezei, clarinetist Teodor Lionte, and guitarist Alexandru Grecu.

Tudor has performed in more than 190 concerts across Romania and abroad. Highlights include appearances at the Transilvania International Guitar Festival, Novum Generatio International Guitar Festival, and performances at venues such as the Romanian Athenaeum, Sala Casino in Cluj-Napoca, and the Zilele Clujului Festival. His concert activity reflects both artistic maturity and a deep commitment to performance.

Masterclasses and influences

Throughout his studies, Tudor has participated in masterclasses with some of the world’s most respected guitarists, including Judicaël Perroy, Carlo Marchione, Gabriel Bianco, Andrea De Vitis, Anton Baranov, Jérémy Jouve, András Csáki, Raphaël Feuillâtre, and Alexis Muzurakis. These encounters have helped shape his musical approach, refining his tone and interpretative style.
