Antonio Marin Montero - 2022 No. 923

Overview

About the luthier

Antonio Marín Montero, born in Granada in 1933, is one of the most revered figures in Spanish guitar making. His career began in 1957 under the guidance of master Pérez, followed by formative years working with Eduardo Ferrer. A defining moment came in the 1970s when he met French luthier Robert Bouchet. Their collaboration led to the integration of Bouchet’s innovative bracing into Antonio’s Spanish construction approach, a fusion that left a lasting mark on his work. To this day, Antonio’s guitars are deeply rooted in the Granadan tradition, known for their balance, beauty, and musical expressiveness.

Over the decades, Marín Montero has become a symbol of excellence in the classical guitar world. His instruments are treasured by both collectors and concert artists for their clarity, warmth, and elegant tonal architecture. Despite his legendary status, each guitar he produces continues to reflect the humility and care of a craftsman wholly dedicated to his art.

About the guitar

This 2022 guitar, No. 923, is a fine example of Antonio Marín Montero’s traditional Spanish approach. It features a straight-grained spruce soundboard and a beautifully figured set of Madagascar rosewood for the back and sides. The body is finished in a meticulously applied French polish that enhances the visual depth of the wood while preserving its acoustic responsiveness. Structurally, it follows the time-honored Spanish Granada school, with a 5 fan-braced top and lightweight construction.

Tonally, this guitar offers the unmistakable singing trebles and rich bass response that have made Marín Montero’s instruments so highly regarded. The notes bloom with clarity and sustain, balanced across the entire register. With a scale length of 650 mm and a nut width of 51.5 mm, it offers a comfortable and familiar feel for a wide range of players. As with all of his guitars, this model exemplifies the harmony between elegance, power, and subtlety that defines the Granadan school.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
