Bernd Martin – 2001 No. 9

Bernd Martin – 2001 No. 9

Overview

Bernard Martin was born in Stuttgart in 1954. He moved to Granada in 1976 to learn the art of guitar making in the master workshops of José Lopez Bellido and Antonio Durán, and under the guidance of Eduardo Ferrer. Bernd Martin was the first German to settle in Granada and has been known for the quality of his instruments ever since. He also won the first prize at the prestigious “Concurso Nacional de Lutheria” (National Guitar Competition) organized by J. L. Romanillos in 1999.

The 2001 Bernd Martin guitar stands as a testament to the unparalleled legacy of the late Bernd Martin. This instrument encapsulates the quintessential elements of time-honored luthiery, marrying meticulous craftsmanship with a deep understanding of acoustic nuances. The selection of a spruce soundboard is a deliberate choice aimed at achieving an optimal blend of tonal qualities; from crisp and clear highs that cut through with precision, to warm and rich lows that add a depth of emotion, and balanced mids that ensure a well-rounded sound profile. Complemented by Indian rosewood back and sides, the guitar offers a full-bodied sonic experience, with a deep and resonant bass, a lush and friendly midrange, and sparkling high-end overtones that add a layer of complexity to its overall sound.

Over the years, this Bernd Martin guitar has matured into an instrument of exceptional openness and sonic clarity, boasting a power and ease of playability that is rare and highly sought after. Despite being a pre-loved piece, it remains in good condition, bearing the marks of use that testify to its musical journey without compromising its structural integrity. These playing wears add character to the guitar, making it not just a musical instrument, but a storied artifact that carries the spirit of its creator and the hands through which it has passed. For enthusiasts and collectors alike, this guitar represents a unique opportunity to own a piece of guitar-making history, offering both a profound musical experience and a tangible connection to the legacy of one of the great luthiers of our time.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
