Overview
Carl Hermann Schäfer started making guitars in 1966. He did his apprenticeship under the guidance of master guitar maker Ernest Köröskeny and later studied under master guitar maker Dieter Hopf. After having worked in Hopf’s workshop from 1971 to 1994, he opened his own in Oberneisen and moved to Niederbrechen, Germany, five years later. Carl Hermann Schäfer has specialized in making the most wonderful replicas one could wish for. These instruments are not only well built, but they also offer the very authentic sound of master instruments of the past.
This replica of a guitar from 1937 by one of the most renowned German guitar makers of the 20th century has the exact dimensions of the guitar exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Arts in New York and once played by Andres Segovia.
Carl-Hermann Schäfer used his most valuable wood for this outstanding instrument: a top made from the original and oldest Hermann Hauser I® stock of German spruce. This unique, century-old tone wood was especially carefully crafted into a four-piece top, which, in addition to its remarkable provenance, gives the guitar a spectacular look. To round off this unique masterpiece, Carl-Hermann chose a beautifully figured set of maple and gorgeous engraved Scheller tuners.
From the sound perspective, this guitar develops exactly the complexity, depth and elegance that one expects from such an instrument. The basses sound deep, and the trebles smooth and at the same time clear and roomy. It also has that fascinating and inspiring aura that is inherent in this type of construction and, combined with the long-lasting sustain, makes it truly special.
