Daniel Friederich - 2003

Daniel Friederich - 2003

Overview

Daniel Friederich was born on the sixteenth of January 1932. Although having the strong wish to play the guitar, he had to face a shortage of money. However, at the age of 23, Friederich solved this dilemma by building his first guitar himself: a copy of a Simplicio guitar. Daniel Friederich was helped by his guitar teacher Christian Aubin at the beginning around 1955. After having built tools and gathered some guitar making experiences, Daniel Friederich showed his fifteenth guitar to Robert Bouchet. Ever since, R. Bouchet inspired his work. He personally developed some ideas of R. Bouchet during his career. For decades, Daniel Friederich has been one of the most important active luthiers in the world. In 2015, he stopped building guitars and sold all his tools. He is now definitely one of the most respected and admired luthiers of the guitar history.

This guitar is an unbelievable instrument in close to pristine condition built by Daniel Friederich in 2003. A very close and thorough inspection only reveals a few superficial playing marks on the top. Besides these derisory signs, this guitar is in perfect condition. Moreover, all the original documents are provided with the guitar: two hand written letters witnessing the single-owner history of the guitar, the original French made hard-shell case, a bronze medal numbered 19/99 displaying Daniel Friederich’s profile and celebrating his 70th birthday in 2002, a metal pin casted with Daniel Friederich’s guitar heard stock, and a set of wood pieces made to raise the saddle. This is an exceptional concert guitar, a masterpiece of lutherie and one of the most collectible instruments on the market and in this condition an absolute rarity.

As expected from Daniel Friederich’s guitar, this instrument is more than magnificently good looking and highly collectible, but above all a breath-taking concert guitar. It has a mature tone with a perfect balance, powerful voice and endless sustain. The elegance of each note and the refinement of the chords are unique. It is a once-in-a lifetime occasion to get what is, in our opinion, a close to “perfect” instrument.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
