Daryl Perry – 2007 A. de Torres FE17

Daryl Perry – 2007 A. de Torres FE17

Overview

Here is a beautiful guitar from Winnipeg, Canada, made by violin maker Daryl Perry. Since 1982 Daryl has focused on building stringed instruments and is today one of the best makers of classical guitars in Canada. He works in the tradition of the great masters of the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly using hand tools and paying special attention to the characteristics of each piece of wood. Great guitarists like Marcin Dylla play on Daryls Perry guitars and his instruments are well in demand today.
This beautiful guitar is a replica of Francisco Tarregas first Antonio de Torres guitar. The original 1864 instrument, designated FE17 in the catalogue of J. L. Romanillos, is richly decorated and features most of the decorative motifs used by A. de Torres during his career, such as the meander (a Greek orthoganels ornament), fine green and white herringbones, the chessboard pattern and the lozenge. This 2007 Daryl Perry instrument, bearing the number 139, is in almost perfect condition with no cracks or repairs and almost no traces of playing on the shellac. The guitar comes with the original Calton case.
Despite its smaller body shape, this Torres model has great dynamic possibilities and can confidently stand up to guitars with a larger body. She has a beautiful deep voice with velvety texture, rich in overtones and yet very clear overall character. In addition, the playability is perfect so that it can be played with the least effort. This masterpiece is a beautiful tribute to Antonio de Torres built by one of the best North American guitar builders of our time.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
