Overview
This tierce guitar by David Bittner was built around 1865. David Bittner was an instrument maker from Vienna and was specialized in making guitars, violins and zithers. Bittner was awarded with the ‘The Medal of Merit’ for his outstanding work by the Emperor of Austria.
This lovely tierce guitar has a fine spruce top and is a typical work of the Viennese guitar maker school. The guitar has a Stauffer style head that looks very nice and elaborated. On the back of the head you can see a highly decorated iron plate that covers the tuning machines. The neck is fixed with a screw to the body what makes is very comfortable to experiment with different actions. The rosette is highly decorated with mother of pearl inlays that are showing green glans. You can discover again this glans motif on both sides of the bridge. The back is veneered inside with spruce. Condition is really good.
