Overview

The Hopf family dedicated themselves to the construction of stringed instruments many years ago. Already in 1669, the name “Hopf” was mentioned in a written document. The tradition of making instruments has continued until today and at present time, Dieter Hopf is maintaining the heritage. Dieter Hopf was born in 1936 and lives in Taunusstein since 1949. At first he started training in Mittenwald to become a violin maker. Afterward, he turned to guitar building and passed his master’s examination in 1968. His instruments have been, and are still played by many famous guitarists such as Alexandre Lagoya, Baden Powell, and Michael Tröster.

On this lovely guitar built 1990, the top is made of cedar, and back and sides are made of CITES certified Brazilian rosewood. It is in near-to-mint condition and portraits all the nicest features of Dieter Hopf’s famous “La Portentosa” model. The label is hand-signed and the very interesting bracing pattern is one of a kind in the world of classical guitar. Thanks to structural innovations, this guitar achieves a huge volume with great clarity and sustain, making it particularly suitable for concert performances as well as chamber music recitals.

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
