About the luthier
Fernando Mazza is a successful guitar maker born in Argentina. After a career as a guitarist, he dedicated himself to classical guitar making and opened his workshop in Arezzo, Italy. Fernando Mazza’s guitars are easily recognized by their meticulous construction and beautiful rosette, reminiscent of the arches of the famous Palazzo Ducale in Venice. He builds guitars in the Australian lattice tradition, combining extremely stiff laminated backs and sides with a highly responsive lattice top. In addition, Fernando Mazza also builds a Nomex double top model with lattice bracing that offers even more projection and spontaneity.
About the guitar
Luthier Fernando Mazza presents his REG 2025 Limited Edition guitar at the Roma Expo Guitars 2025, featuring his innovative Lattice Bracing model. This remarkable instrument showcases Mazza's expertise in balancing modern materials with traditional craftsmanship, resulting in a guitar that is both powerful and harmonically rich.
The guitar features a red cedar soundboard, with balsa-wood bracing reinforced with carbon fiber. The bracing varies in thickness from 2.3 mm to 1 mm, a result of Fernando's meticulous research to perfectly balance the amount of carbon with the natural properties of the wood. This ensures a powerful, yet natural sound, full of harmonics and sustain, without losing the organic warmth of the tone.
The sides are crafted from Santos rosewood combined with maple, a pairing that enhances structural rigidity and greatly contributes to the guitar’s projection and volume.
The back is built using a Santos rosewood veneer combined with Nomex, creating a structure that is rigid yet lightweight and flexible. This combination allows for maximum resonance and tonal efficiency while maintaining stability.
For durability and tone, Mazza selected a Polyurethane finish for the back, providing robust protection—while opting for nitrocellulose on the soundboard and the sides, ensuring a thin and resonant surface without the fragility associated with traditional French polish.
