Gerhard J. Oldiges - 2014 "La Garza"

Gerhard J. Oldiges - 2014 "La Garza"

Overview

Gerhard Oldiges started to build guitars in the late seventies while studying and after graduating, he completed a two-year apprenticeship as a guitar maker. After that, he first worked in a guitar repair workshop and took part in a guitar-making course given by José Romanillos in 1988, with whom he was befriended and whose courses he has regularly attended since 1996. Gerhard Oldiges is intensively engaged in the history of the Spanish guitar building. Thus, a special focus of his work is the replication of old Spanish master instruments by Antonio de Torres, Vicente Arias, Manuel Ramírez, and others.

This deep-tuned 2014 Gerhard Oldiges guitar called “La Garza” is a wonderful instrument. Inspired by the guitars of Hermann Hauser® I and Antonio de Torres, this instrument is the embodiment of colorfulness. The palette of sounds, textures, and colors that one gets with it is simply breathtaking. Built with the traditional spruce/Indian rosewood combination and tuned low at around F#, it is a true masterpiece. The finish of this guitar has been refreshed, and it only shows a few playing marks. This charming instrument is in very good condition. “La Garza” has a beautiful spruce top and fine-grained Indian rosewood back and sides. Like every Oldiges guitar, this instrument is of excellent craftsmanship and construction. Furthermore, the composition of the ornaments underlines the class and elegance of this instrument. This guitar is a real gem, combining modern features such as tonal strength and excellent playability with an old-world sound character.

Gerhard J. Oldiges 2014 La Garza Classical Guitar - review

While this one is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
