Gerhard J. Oldiges - 2017 "La Fresca"

Gerhard J. Oldiges - 2017 "La Fresca"

Overview

Gerhard Oldiges started building guitars during his studies in the late seventies and completed a two-year apprenticeship as a guitar maker after graduation. He then worked in a guitar repair workshop and in 1988 took part in a guitar building course given by the late master José Luis Romanillos, with whom he was friends and whose courses he attended regularly from 1996 onwards. Gerhard Oldiges is intensively involved with the history of Spanish guitar making. A special focus of his work is therefore the replication of old Spanish master instruments by Antonio de Torres, Vicente Arias, Manuel Ramírez and others.

This very beautiful model from 2017 called "La Fresca" is an excellent example of Oldiges' work at its best. Inspired by the guitars of Hermann Hauser® I and Antonio de Torres, this instrument has a wonderful vintage sound that is reflected in the deep, silky bass and the brilliant treble, which complement each other perfectly. With only a few playing marks, this charming instrument is in excellent condition. "La Fresca" has a beautiful spruce top and fine-grained Indian rosewood back and sides. Like every Oldiges guitar, this instrument is of excellent craftsmanship and construction. Furthermore, the composition of the ornaments underlines the class and elegance of this instrument. This guitar is a real gem, combining modern features such as tonal strength and excellent playability with an old-world sound character.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
