Gerhard Oldiges - 2022 "La Mimbrera" Simplicio Model

Gerhard Oldiges - 2022 "La Mimbrera" Simplicio Model

Overview

Gerhard Oldiges started to build guitars in the late seventies while studying and after graduating he completed a two-year apprenticeship as a guitar maker. After that, he first worked in a guitar repair workshop and took part in a guitar-making course given by José Romanillos in 1988, with whom he is still friends today and whose courses he has regularly attended since 1996. Gerhard Oldiges is intensively engaged in the history of the Spanish guitar building. Thus, a special focus of his work is the replication of old Spanish master instruments by Antonio de Torres, Vicente Arias, Manuel Ramírez, and others.

The 2022 Gerhard Oldiges Simplicio Model "La Mimbrera" is a testament to the exceptional artistry and craftsmanship of Gerhard Oldiges. Every detail in the construction of this instrument is meticulously executed, producing a guitar that is nothing short of a masterpiece. The choice of materials showcases a discerning eye for quality and aesthetics. The body of the guitar is adorned with a rare, CITES-certified Brazilian rosewood, noted for its exceptional dark color, streaked with bright orange veins that catch the eye. Complementing this is a top composed of spruce, boasting a delightful grain that adds an organic charm to the instrument. Accents of hand-engraved German Scheller tuners set the tone, adding a touch of classic elegance, while the elegant marquetry work extends the visual appeal. A distinctive checkerboard pattern graces both the bridge and the central ebony section of the back, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship. A remarkable rosette stands as proof of the highest level of artisanal skill involved in the creation of this guitar. Although freshly crafted in 2022, the guitar bears a small, 25mm superficial crack on the lower bout, an aesthetic flaw that occurred just after the guitar's completion. This defect, while nearly invisible, in no way impacts the sound or playability of the instrument, serving only to add character to its story. As for its tonal qualities, this model defies expectations. Despite its size, the guitar boasts a robust sound, thanks to its double-sided design and responsive spruce top. The sound it produces is voluminous, warm, and rounded. The treble strings, in particular, offer a unique harmonic character with long sustain and balanced tone. The bass strings, on the other hand, captivate listeners with their cello-like sonority. The 2022 Gerhard Oldiges Simplicio Model "La Mimbrera" is not just a master guitar in terms of its sonority, it is also a visual delight that makes a striking impression with its meticulously crafted details and exquisite materials.

While this one is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
