Gernot Wagner - 2017 Doubletop

Gernot Wagner - 2017 Doubletop

Overview

Gernot Wagner is one of the most important guitar makers worldwide and lives in Frankfurt. He is a trailblazer of the now established double-top guitar, also known as sandwich top/guitar or composite guitar.  His instruments are played all over the world by reputable guitarists.

These remarkable guitars made by Gernot Wagner are extremely rare on the international musical instrument market. It is therefore a unique opportunity to purchase a newer model in perfect condition, built with Cites-certified Rio Rosewood and created by one of the early pioneers of the double-top concept. The condition of this guitar bearing the number 345, built in 2017, is excellent. For back and sides a Cites-certified Rio Rosewood with a particularly beautiful grain was chosen. This extremely precious wood underlines the unique character of this instrument.

The finely crafted rosette inlaid with green decorative fillets is easily recognizable and typical of guitars by Gernot Wagner, as well as the headstock in the style of Manuel Ramirez. Machine heads from the prestigious Rodgers manufacture ensure optimal tuning stability. The "double" top is made of cedar wood on the outside and spruce on the inside, which provides a generous and complex sound. On the interior of the instrument, there is the handwritten signature of Gernot Wagner.

This is simply one of the finest double-top guitars we have ever presented and offered in our store. The sonority is almost breathtaking and the precision of the tone is fantastic. With an instrument like this, a guitarist can approach any repertoire with the certainty of playing an instrument that is at once complex and supportive, powerful and delicate, comfortable, and expressive.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
