About the luthier
Born in Almería in 1974, Gerundino Fernández Llamas is the son of the renowned flamenco guitar maker Gerundino Fernández. From an early age, he assisted his father in the workshop and developed an intimate understanding of tonewoods, tools, and traditional construction methods. After studying the instrument and his father’s professional legacy for many years, he began building guitars professionally in 2015. Working with inherited tools, seasoned woods, and established workshop methods, Fernández Llamas continues the aesthetic and acoustic ideals of a family tradition closely associated with some of the most distinguished flamenco instruments of the twentieth century. His father’s guitars received major international recognition and were played by artists including Paco de Lucía, Paco Peña, Tomatito, Vicente Amigo, and Raimundo Amador.
About the guitar
This 2026 flamenco guitar was conceived as an instrument capable of moving naturally between flamenco and classical repertoire. Its spruce top is paired with Pau Ferro back and sides, giving the voice greater roundness and sustain than one might expect from a more traditional blanca, while preserving the immediacy, brilliance, and rhythmic definition associated with flamenco playing. Notes speak quickly and with a firm, articulate attack, yet their decay is unusually generous, allowing melodic lines to remain present and connected. The trebles are bright and punchy without becoming brittle, while the basses retain clarity and support the instrument’s lively response. A subtle softness around the note gives classical textures additional colour and breadth, but the sound never loses its flamenco tension or directness. The result is a versatile, highly responsive guitar whose singing sustain and clear projection invite both sharply defined articulation and more expansive phrasing.
