Giancarlo Nannoni - 2023

Overview

Giancarlo Nannoni has been building classical guitars since 1994, blending his technical studies with a deep love for music. From his adolescent years of playing various instruments, a visit to the workshop of luthier Contavalli in Imola sparked his initial interest in crafting instruments. Embarking on a self-taught journey, Giancarlo delved deep into the nuances of guitar construction, visiting museums and studying the works of historic luthiers. Invited to major exhibitions across Italy and delivering lectures on lutherie, he enriched his expertise through interactions with numerous musicians. Today, his instruments resonate in Italy and beyond, gracing the hands of conservatory professors and award-winning concert artists.

From the workshop of Giancarlo Nannoni emerges a 2023 creation that beckons admiration both for its artistry and innovation. This isn't just a guitar; it's an emblem of contemporary craftsmanship infused with traditional sensibilities.

The guitar's Bearclaw spruce soundboard immediately catches the eye. Its lightning-like figures seem to narrate a tale of nature's fury captured in a serene medium, exuding an aura of wild elegance. Complementing this audacious choice is the Cocobolo wood gracing the back and sides. Known for its beautiful grain and rich, lustrous hues, the Cocobolo adds depth, character, and a touch of opulence to the overall visual ensemble.

Yet, what's truly intriguing is the anatomy of its construction. Incorporating both traditional and contemporary bracing techniques, Nannoni seems to be pushing boundaries. The seven fan bracing combined with the six reverse fan bracing made of cedar is not just an experiment, but a harmonious blend of the old and the new. Such an innovative approach is a testament to Nannoni's forward-thinking vision, proving that it's possible to respect tradition while embracing evolution.

Tonally, this guitar is an aural masterpiece. The unique bracing design delivers a sound that is a delightful paradox. While the trebles emanate with a direct, velvety touch, the basses come forth with a crunchy depth, akin to the robust foundations of classical compositions. This tonal contrast ensures that every note played on this instrument is articulate, rich, and alive with character.

In essence, Giancarlo Nannoni's 2023 creation is not just an instrument but a statement. A statement that resonates with the beauty of innovation, the power of tradition, and the soulful voice of wood. It promises a musical journey that's as visually stunning as it is sonorously rewarding.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
