Overview
José Ortega was taught by his father Juan, together with Benito Ferrer, the founder of the Ferrer dynasty in Granada and luthier of Andrés Segovias first concert guitar. A typical feature of Ortega’s work are the very small sides, which can be found on only one Torres guitar from 1890 (SE 04). The case was specially made for this instrument and the nacre marquetry possibly imported from the area of Markneukirchen. The famous spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca owned an Ortega guitar, which is kept in a museum in Granada. The instrument is in “restored original state” - which means: great importance has been attached to not change the substance. The guitar impresses with an extraordinary richness of tone-colours. The tuning machines are made by Sloane.
