José Ramirez Flamenco 1A – 2008

José Ramirez Flamenco 1A – 2008

Overview

The Ramirez family has been building fine and high-quality guitars since 1882. These instruments were and are played by some of the greatest guitarists in the world such as Julian Bream, Andres Segovia, Laurindo Almeida, Oscar Ghiglia, Jose Luis Gonzales and many more. The Ramirez family is part of the history of the classical guitar. Jose Ramirez I (1858-1923) trained a huge number of luthiers in his workshop at the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth. José Ramirez III (1922-1995) was a precursor in the use of Cedar as a top-wood and who built several guitars for Andres Segovia.

This guitar has a fantastic “Spanish” sound. It is super-responsive, has a warm and colourful tone, a great balance and a notable volume. The ambivalence between the cedar’s mellowness and the cypress’ spontaneity gives to the guitar an incredible range of colours and exceptional dynamic possibilities. There are very-well repaired cracks on the lower bout of the back. This guitar was not only used for flamenco music but also as classical guitar in the past. A hard-shell case is included.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
