Josep Farré - 1958

Overview

Josep Farré Gonzalez was born in Barcelona in 1928. He started his career as a cabinetmaker and began to build guitars in 1954. In 1956, he went to work at the Juan Estruch guitar factory in Barcelona where he stayed until 1974. After that, he worked at the Tauras guitar factory, where he became the shop foreman. In 1975, he struck out on his own and set up is own workshop in Calle San Felix, Vilafranca del Penedès near Barcelona.

What an incredible guitar. This instrument is a project realized by Josep Farré in 1958, possibly inspired by the cardboard guitar built by Antonio de Torres during the preceding century. Farré created a guitar that almost seems like an anatomical model. In fact, it allows not only to study the role of the top on the sound of the guitar, but also to have a clear insight and understanding of the internal structure of this complex instrument. This is an absolute rarity in excellent condition, and a unique guitar.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
