Overview

Libor Prazan is an artist with a passion for wood and music, originating from the romantic mountainous region of the Bohemian Forest. Since the mid-1990s, he has been working as a marquetry artist and restorer. In 2010, he joined the workshop of Paul McNulty, a globally renowned fortepiano maker from the USA, residing and working near Prague. There, he participated in creating exquisite piano replicas of instruments used by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, and others. This internship at Paul McNulty's workshop inspired him to start developing his own master instruments. Having played the guitar from a young age, the choice was clear. In later years, he received invaluable advice from several established guitar master craftsmen. A hallmark of Libor Prazan's guitars is their rich embellishments.

This year marks a milestone for Libor Prazan as he celebrates his 50th birthday, an occasion that has inspired him to create a unique series of musical instruments. Fascinated by ancient Rome, Libor decided to craft seven specially designed guitars, each named after one of the seven hills on which Rome was founded. These instruments combine traditional construction with lavish designs, featuring rosettes adorned with antique columns and arches to reflect the grandeur of that era. The first guitar in this series is named "Aventine Hill," or "Collis Aventinus" in Latin. This guitar is not just visually striking; it is also an acoustic masterpiece. Libor has dedicated a considerable amount of time to perfecting this instrument, making it exceptionally playable with its user-friendly neck shape and responsive nature. It offers a full-bodied sound experience, characterized by deep resonance at the D air frequency and trebles that are airy yet sustain beautifully. This instrument stands out as a testament to Libor's craftsmanship and his appreciation for historical aesthetics.

Libor Prazan – 2024 Collis Aventinus Classical Guitar Review

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
