Manuel Reyes - 1964 Flamenca ex. Pepe Romero

Manuel Reyes - 1964 Flamenca ex. Pepe Romero

Overview

Manuel Reyes was born in Jayena (Granada) on July 18, 1934, and began playing flamenco guitar at a young age. It was only a short time later that he restored his first old flamenco guitars and taught himself the basics of guitar making. Soon after, he built his first guitar himself and since the result was not satisfactory for his needs, he decided to look for someone who could teach him how to build a guitar.

He met the flamenco guitar maker Joaquín Sanchez Galisteo, who was willing to teach Reyes. In 1949, Manuel Reyes finally decided to open his own workshop, beginning a career that would bring him to the pinnacle of flamenco guitar makers. Today, Manuel Reyes is one of the most respected flamenco guitar makers, admired for his excellent craftsmanship and the typical Andalusian flamenco sound of his world-class instruments.

This wonderful Manuel Reyes from 1964 has not only the sound character so typical of his guitars but also an interesting history. For about ten years, this guitar was part of Pepe Romero's famous collection. This extremely versatile guitarist, who has recorded more than 60 albums and played countless concerts all over the world, is known for choosing the most beautiful examples of guitar-making history for his personal collection, and this guitar is an impressive representative of that. But even before that, this wonderful Flamenca Blanca belonged to the famous flamenco guitarist Pepe Martinez, so it was owned by two great musicians alike. Moreover, the repair of some cracks as well as the finish of this guitar was done by none other than Manuel Reyes himself, as evidenced by an invoice from his workshop. This guitar plays with amazing ease, and its tone is simply exceptional, with sparkling, lively trebles and crisp, powerful basses. A truly exceptional guitar with a very intriguing tonal character.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
