Overview
Marcelino Lopez Nieto (1931-2018) was one of the most emblematic Madrilène luthiers of the second half of the twentieth century. He was a talented guitar player and studied guitar performance under the guidance of Daniel Fortea for five years. He opened his first workshop in 1949 at the very young age of 18 years, just after having finished his apprenticeship as a cabinet-maker. He later worked in the prestigious Hernandez y Aguado workshop. Marcelino Lopez Nieto’s life was dedicated to art and guitar, and he left a great mark in the Spanish guitar making history.
It is one of the most interesting copies made by Marcelino Lopez Nieto: a copy of the famous 1856 Antonio de Torres guitar named “La Leona”. Marcelino Lopez Nieto had the chance to restore the original instrument and built this replica at the same time. This guitar is in perfect condition and very easy to play. It has an authentic deep sound and gives an incredible feeling of resonance to the player. The sweetness of the tone and the inspiring charm of the playing experience make it a perfect instrument for recordings and concerts.
