Overview

Patrick Mailloux started building classical guitars full-time in 2003. His workshop is located in the beautiful Lac Beauport area, in the mountains north of Québec City. Since 2011, he has been using a double top construction with a Nomex core exclusively. His guitars are modern in design, with an elevated fingerboard, armrest, sound port, and a 12-hole bridge. His inspiration comes from many different modern and contemporary luthiers, from Daniel Friederich to Gregory Byers. His guitars are highly praised worldwide and have been played in concerts and International Guitar Competitions all around the globe.

This guitar, named "Sophie", has a Canadian Western Red Cedar double top, with East Indian back and sides. The back and sides are doubled with Canadian Maple, increasing stability and producing more clarity in the sound. The bindings are made of Flamed Katalox, which is enhanced by the French Polished shellac finish. The sound is mighty, with great separation, clarity, and balance. Thanks to the fantastic playability offered by the comfortable neck, this guitar plays by itself and makes left-hand gymnastics effortless. Sophie has a 650 mm scale length, a 53mm nut, and Gotoh Premium Tuners

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
