P. Bernabé Sr. (* 2. Juli 1932 in Madrid; † 10. Mai 2007 Madrid) was one of Spain's greatest and most renowned luthiers. Before he founded his first workshop in 1969, where he worked with his son Paulino Jr. from the 1980s onwards, Paulino Sr. worked in José Ramirez III’s workshop in the 1950s and 1960s. Bernabé guitars are still played in major venues all around the world today. For instance, Thibaut Garcia, the 2016 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) competition winner, has been playing on a Bernabé for several years.

The back and sides are constructed from stunning Brazilian rosewood, CITES certified, and showcase an intricate pattern of parallel orange-black veins that add to its visual appeal. While there is one glued crack on the back and another on the side, both have been stabilized and do not detract from the instrument's remarkable sound quality. As a prime example of the Madrid guitar-making school, this 1984 Paulino Bernabe guitar boasts a powerful and distinct character.
