P. Bernabé Sr. (* 2. Juli 1932 in Madrid; † 10. Mai 2007 Madrid) was one of the greatest and most renowned luthiers from Spain. Before he founded his first workshop in 1969, where he worked along with his son Paulino Jr. from the 1980s onwards, Paulino Sr. worked in José Ramirez III’s workshop in the 1950s and 1960s. Bernabe guitars are still played in major venues all around the world today. Thibault Garcia for instance, the winner of the 2016 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) competition, has been playing on a Bernabe for severals years.
This beautiful 1995 Paulino Bernabe, first class concert model, is an absolutely fantastic instrument. The inside of the top is hand-signed and shows all the specificities of the great Bernabe guitars. It has the typical X-bracing, the sides are doubled with cypress and the best quality of wood was used. The varnish was renewed and this instrument is free of cracks, showing just a few scratches and dents.
Such a brilliant and bright sound is very rare to hear on cedar top guitars. This instrument has both a very warm and also a precise crystal-clear tone. Furthermore, the openness and the balance of this guitar are remarkable.
