Overview
Richard Jacob “Weissgerber” was one of the most creative, innovative, and certainly the most versatile guitar makers of the 20th century. Neither in Germany nor in the world has there been or is there any other master whose work, in its multiplicity, would be comparable to that of Richard Jacob. The variety of his models, shapes, and designs are unique.
This beautiful “Lady Model”, sized like a romantic guitar, was built in 1919. It is just incredible, in which perfect condition it remained over the last one hundred years. No cracks nor repairs have to be notified, and only minimal playing marks can be seen on the top. This is therefore a highly decorated and rare instrument in absolutely outstanding condition. The top is bordered by white and black inlays made of Galalith and probably dark-stained pearwood. Around the soundhole, the purfling inlays are made in the same arrangement and enriched by floral motifs. These, along with the bridge, the head, and the lower bout inlay are reminiscent of the Art Deco style. The maple back is made of one single piece, which is a noticeable feature. To sum up, it is a dream guitar in outstanding condition, which we received from its first owner.
The sound of this guitar is soft and clear, with a very romantic character. A relatively narrow neck offers a playing comfort close to that offered by 19th-century guitars. Finally, the volume of this instrument is quite impressive and it is ready to be played immediately.
