Masaki Sakurai, nephew of the great Japanese master luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied electrical engineering at Sophia University and became part of " Kohno Guitar Manufacturing" in 1967, after graduation. In 1988, he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai's guitars are of impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their easy playability and great volume of sound.
The "Maestro RF" is the most advanced model made by Masaki Sakurai. It is a very beautiful guitar crafted from the oldest and most precious tone woods from the Kohno stock. This model can be recognized by the head decorated with fine marquetry and by the significantly raised fingerboard. This exceptional guitar is new, straight from the famous Japanese workshop. It is built with the seven fan bars and extremely asymmetrical bracing typical of Masaki Sakurai, combined with three very thin crossbars.
This guitar is very responsive and has excellent volume. Moreover, the sound is precise and projects clearly. It is an instrument with optimal balance and a relatively pure but very malleable tone. This allows the guitarist to express himself freely in all repertoires. It is rich in timbre, very pleasant to play and undoubtedly capable of filling concert halls. The 64 cm scale provides additional playing comfort for the left hand and at the same time all the sound volume and tonal quality of the standard 65 cm scale instruments.
