Sakurai Kohno - 2022 Special Cedar

Sakurai Kohno - 2022 Special Cedar

Overview

Masaki Sakurai, the nephew of the great Japanese master luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied electrical engineering at Sophia University and became part of” Kohno Guitar Manufacturing” in 1967, after graduation. In 1988, he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai’s guitars are of impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their easy playability and great volume of sound.

This superb “special” model is recognizable by its asymmetrical bridge and sculpted head. Masaki Sakurai built this guitar in the continuity of his uncle Masaru Kohno’s guitars. It showcases the aesthetics, marquetry, carving details, and the sound of Kohno guitars. This model is built with the extreme precision associated with the highest quality of Japanese craftsmanship. It also features a beautiful selection of precious woods and great attention to detail.

This brand-new cedar top instrument is characterised by its round and lyrical trebles. Furthermore, the warm basses and velvety middle voices enrich the entire sound palette. Although it is a new guitar, it already sounds very open. Also, the comfortable playability due to its pleasantly shaped neck and its overall warm voice make this guitar an excellent concert instrument.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
