Overview

About the luthier

Tan Tan, born in China in 1989, began learning classical guitar at the age of four, laying a strong musical foundation that would later shape his career as a luthier. After completing his university studies, he entered the world of classical guitar making and has since devoted over a decade to the craft. In his early years, Tan specialized in building traditional guitars inspired by legendary makers such as Torres, Romanillos, and the Hauser family. Since 2018, he has turned his focus to modern guitar construction, with a particular emphasis on Nomex cedar double-top designs that combine innovation with refined acoustic performance.

About the guitar

This instrument is a brand-new guitar by the young and highly talented Chinese luthier Tan Tan. It is a double-top guitar, and it is nothing short of spectacular. The instrument perfectly embodies the tonal characteristics of the finest German double-top guitars.

It features round, dark, and warm trebles that are truly exceptional—reminiscent of the legendary instruments by Gernot Wagner. The sustain is impressive, and the response is controlled and balanced. As expected from a top-tier double-top, this guitar is a powerhouse. It takes very little effort to draw out its full potential; even the lightest touch yields a beautiful, rich tone.

The playability is outstanding, offering a very forgiving experience even for players with less-than-perfect nails. Overall, this guitar is an extraordinary modern concert instrument, both in sound and feel.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
