Tobias Braun - 2023 Romanillos

Tobias Braun - 2023 Romanillos

Overview

Tobias Braun was born in Holzminden, Germany, in 1960. Shortly after, his family moved to Perchtoldsdorf near Vienna, Austria. In 1983 he built his first concert guitar, and a year later, he completed a course about guitar-making taught by José Romanillos. A second course followed in 1988, and the third course in 1989. In the same year, he completed his master’s certificate in Vienna. Tobias Braun has dedicated himself to the traditional Spanish guitar-building school. Many of his guitars are models of famous masters such as Santos Hernandez and Manuel Ramirez.

This exquisite guitar crafted by Tobias Braun is a testament to his exceptional artistry and his profound connection with the celebrated luthier Jose L. Romanillos. Drawing deeply from his relationship and admiration for Romanillos's work, Braun has created an instrument that embodies both a tribute and a continuation of the legendary craftsmanship. The spruce soundboard is a focal point, delicately adorned in a style reminiscent of Romanillos's characteristic designs, which not only enhances the visual appeal of the guitar but also reflects Braun's meticulous attention to detail. Complemented by the elegant Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, the guitar not only looks stunning but also excels in its acoustic performance, reflecting the high standards set by its inspirations.

Acoustically, this Tobias Braun guitar channels the rich and versatile tonal qualities that are hallmark of a Jose L. Romanillos instrument. It offers musicians a chance to experience the resonant, deep soundscapes that have made Romanillos's guitars sought after by classical guitarists around the world. This instrument captures the essence and feel of Romanillos's work, providing a sonorous palette that inspires expressive and nuanced performances. Whether used in intimate settings or larger venues, this guitar invites players into a rich auditory journey, making every note played a testament to the enduring legacy of great guitar-making traditions. This Tobias Braun creation is not just an instrument but a gateway to exploring the depths of musical creativity, inspired by one of the great names in classical guitar history.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
