Overview

The Carrillo family started making guitars in 1744 in “Manchuela Conquense”, also called Casasimarro. As early as the 19th century, the town was nicknamed “El pueblo de las Guitarras”, the town of guitars. The instruments are still made in the same place by Vicente Carrillo, the seventh generation of the family to make guitars.

Vicente Carrillo was awarded the “Regional Craftsmanship Award” in 2009 and also the “National Award” in 2010. All his guitars have a distinctive sound that offers a balance between carrying basses and sweet trebles. Innovation is always an important factor in his workshop. He uses a variety of construction techniques, constantly evolving to better understand the art of guitar building.Artists who play or have played guitars built by Vicente Carrillo include: Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, J.M. Cañizarez, El Niño Josele, Rafael Cañizares, Javier Limón, Keith Richards & Josemi Carmona (Ketama).

The “Herencia” model is Vicente Carrillo’s most famous model and is an accurate benchmark of his distinguished luthiery skills. You will often see the Herencia on stage, in international competitions, or in your local music school in your teacher’s hand. This guitar, an homage to the heritage left by his guitar makers’ family, is a blend of tradition and modernity. It features a carbon-free lattice bracing made of spruce, which, combined with the cedar soundboard, provides a mighty warm and precise sound. The thickness and darkness of the tone are striking, yet, a certain clarity makes the counterpoint effortless to follow. The sensitivity and mellowness of the trebles are particularly remarkable on this guitar, and the amount of emotion that the guitarist can carry with this instrument is exceptional.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
